I told you this would be a question we’d come back to from time to time! I also love hearing about what YOU guys are reading right, just as much as I like chatting about what I’m reading.
So please join us in the comments below and tell us all about the book you’re reading right now!
I’m currently reading Plum Spooky by Janet Evanovich. It’s one of the Stephanie Plum Between the Numbers novels, and boy is it funny! I’m only a little ways into the book right now, so I can’t comment much on plot or anything, but what I did want to mention is the addition of a new “character’.
I had read about Carl on Janet’s website and was actually quite worried… “A monkey? Seriously? Could this be the proverbial Shark Jump for the Plum series? Because a monkey sounds annoying.” Well, I’m happy to report that I was SO very wrong! Carl is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters! I have laughed out loud at this monkey so many times now. Again, it’s still early in the book, so perhaps this opinion could change, but as of now I am now on Team Carl!
Do we have any Plum fans out there who have already met Carl? What’s your opinion?
And of course, make sure to tell us What are you reading right now?

While I’m waiting for a copy of The Book Thief to be returned to the library so I can read that I am currently reading David Cross’ book I Drink for a Reason. I’m a fan of his comedy. So far the book has been pretty funny, but it’s kind of random and I could live without some of the chapters.
I was looking this book up and saw this quote from Paul Rudd: “One of the funniest books I’ve ever skimmed!”
Maybe that’s how you need to read it Jenn!
Paul Rudd may be onto something…
I have a few Plum fans in my book clun but I have not heard about Carl yet.
I am reading The Help and I loving it. I will be doing an online discussion of this hopefully tomorrow evening. I have a group I sent questions too and they emailed in their thoughts. This is my first try doing this so we will see how it goes. I am really liking the way you do yours. It is a nice format!
Carl kept me giggling away again last night.
The Help sounds really good. That’s an interesting way to set up the discussion, I’m very interested in how it works out!
Thanks. We just need to figure out how to get more people here to chat about the books with us!
I’m reading Drood, by Dan Simmons. It’s about the last few years of Charles Dickens’ life and his obsession with a strange character named Drood that he meets on the scene of a horrifying train accident. I’m just about halfway through and I’m loving it!
Sounds interesting Jamye.
I’m currently reading “The Other Mr. Darcy” by Monica Fairview. I’m enjoying much more than I thought I would. It’s just a delightful story. I’m imagining the American Mr. Darcy to be Patrick Dempsey, aka Dr.McDreamy. I’ll post a full review on my blog (http:CalicoCritic.blogspot.com).
I’m also going through “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, mostly on audio cd in the car. I’ll probably finish it up with the real book, though. Doesn’t seem right to finish the series without a book in my hands.
McDreamy would be my Mr. Darcy too Laura! Yum! The Other Mr. Darcy sounds like a great book.
Ohhh, I’ve always wanted to have HP in audio format, but I can never afford it.
I am currently reading Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater…The little bit that I’ve got read so far is pretty good.
I went and checked Shiver out on Amazon, sounds like a great book. I added it to my wishlist! Thanks.
[...] the laughs came from a new “character” – Carl the monkey (who you may remember from the most recent QotW). Lula is especially funny as she battles what she believes to be a cold, and we get to meet [...]
