Question of the Week: What Are You Reading?

QotW

Sorry for the brief departure from posting folks, I was off on a little vacation in Florida to visit Rae and the computer wasn’t even opened on the trip. Since things have been so quiet here, I thought I’d start the week off with an old favorite… What are you reading?

As I’m sure is common with most book bloggers, we love hearing about what YOU’RE reading, just as much as we like talking about the books we’re reading.  So please join us in the comments and tell us all about the book(s) you’re reading right now!

SeaofMonstersI finished the second book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series while I was flying home yesterday. I love to have light and fun book while flying because there’s enough stress and trauma just dealing with air travel that I want my book to take me away. So The Sea of Monsters was a perfect choice. I don’t think I enjoyed it quite as much as the first one, but it was still a fun story. (I’m working on a review, so more complete thoughts to come!)

ExitStrategyI’m currently reading Exit Strategy, the first book in Kelley Armstrong’s Nadia Stafford series, and am enjoying it just as much as I always do with Kelley’s books. I went in kind of blind, not really knowing what the book was about except that it doesn’t contain any supernatural elements which is a change for this author. I assumed it was a detective type novel, but have been surprised to find out it’s not entirely so. I love the direction it’s going and can’t wait until I have some time to really get into this one!

So… What are you reading right now?

UPDATE**As I travel around the book blog-o-sphere, I realize that the ever popular It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? which is hosted by  J. Kaye’s Book Blog is up on many sites today. Since this post is so similar to that meme, I wanted to link back to her to ensure that credit is given.  I wasn’t attempting to compete or intentionally copying. I just like to ask from time to time!

I just started the Stephanie Plum series a month ago and am now on Three to Get Deadly. They’re fun, fast reads. I just finished Lauren Willig’s latest in her Pink Carnation series, which was fantastic. I loved the heroine to death.

I’ve been interested in that Kelley Armstrong book, Exit Strategy, having read her paranormal series. I’m eager to see what you think!

I adore the Stephanie Plum books Erin! I just got completely caught up last month, and now have to wait until June until the next installment. So, don’t read them too fast… it’s nice to know you have new ones waiting for you! ;)

So far I’m liking Exit Strategy very much. I am only on chapter 7, but Kelley rarely disappoints me.

      • Erin says:

Yep, the Stephanie Plum books are fun!

You guys should try the Lauren Willig series if you haven’t already. It’s like chick lit meets historical romance. I adore them.

I just started reading The Key ( A Rachel Benjamin Mystery) by Jennifer Sturman. This is the 3rd book in the series. I didn’t realize it was the third book until I finally decided to read it (it was really cheap at Books A Million so I couldn’t pass up the deal). So far I haven’t had any trouble following along. Didn’t know Percy Jackson and the Olympians was a book. I saw the trailer for the movie and I want to see it. I’m goin to have to read the book now.

    • Jody says:

I hate when I get a book that I realize after isn’t the first in a series. I always have to stop and go back and read the first ones before I can go on!

Percy Jackson is a whole series of 5 books! I didn’t know either until I saw the trailer in the theater and then had to go hunt them down. They’re fun.

I’m finishing up Specials right now. Hopefully I’ll finish it in the next day or 2. Yesterday when I went to the library to drop off Pretties I picked up Shopaholic Ties the Knot and Shopaholic and Sister. I figured I should finish that series since I enjoy keeping up with Becky Bloomwood. :)

    • Jody says:

Yay! You made it through the whole series. :) I hope you enjoyed them? The discussion post is still open and I added questions for the later books if you have anything else you want to add.

I love the Shopaholic books, but I do find I can’t read them back to back. They’re so similar to one another I need something different in between to break them up.

I’m juggling a few books right now:

The Skinnygirl Dish by Bethenny Frankel (recipes + how to approach cooking, it’s great)

Old Man’s War by John Scalzi (sci fi recommendation from my dad)

Enemies of the People by Kati Marton (excellent bio!)

The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton (a surprisingly readable classic)

AND a friend just loaned me Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah, which looks really good.

    • Jody says:

Wow! That’s a lot of books you have on the go Maggie! I can’t handle any more than two (maybe three) at a time or I can’t keep them straight. Do you ever get them mixed up?

  5. Maggie says:

This is a LOT for me to have going at once! :) For some reason, I keep starting books that I’m planning to read without finishing up the previous one. Since I review them for my blog, I actually keep notes while I’m reading — so far, not many mixups, but it’s probably inevitable! :)
