It wasn't a bad ending, but there were some let-downs. There were also a few bright spots that I wasn't expecting. The real problem with the book is even though it's the last installment in the series, you still feel like you're wading through a lot of filler to get to the big finish. I'm glad I completed it though.

I have much the same opinion of the books as you, Jody. I too was enthralled by the first 3 books, the way historical events and personalities were made magic by Scott.

However, I have yet to read the final installment because I felt cheated in books 4 and 5. It seemed as though lots was happening: the chapters were short, making for quick reads; it jumped from setting to setting, giving you updates on the many time lines and characters. Then, by the end of book 4, nothing much happened, then again not much had happened by the end of book 5. You can feel it building to a climax. After reading this review, I think I will be disappointed in how it ends.

I will still read the 6th book. I want to know what happens to Josh and Sophie. I want to read how the world is saved from magic. I want to see how Nicholas and Perenelle die. I just have a feeling it will be a flat ending to what started as a great series.
